French Naughtygirls at the ALA?

Sent in by a reader. Is this for real?

"(This is so dripping with irony that I couldn't make up a better story if I tried)

Hey AL,

For at least a week, it looks like somebody pushing a website called "NaughtyGirl92 iFrance" has been posting its link all over the ALA Recruitment Assembly's Wiki.

Here's the link:

http://wikis.ala.org/recruit/index.php/Main_Page

So the ALA lets its recruitment wikis be taken over by French Naughtygirls. Maybe they want a few of them to go to library school?"

It may be a French girl but the language looks like Italian. Or what do I know? I don't have a 2nd Master's degree and can't possibly make that call without higher edumacation.

Although heck, the entire site has been taken over. What a wonderful way to recruit people, show them the virtues of a healthy diet of spam.

Oops, it's 5AM, time to drudge off to my as-far-away-as-possible from a library job. I did get a degree, right? Seems like just a memory at this point.....

Down with wikis! Down with blogs! Away with all forms of social[ist] software! Information must be under tight control! When wikis and blogs are illegal, only criminals will have wikis and blogs.

Don't go there. You get pop-ups for an anti-virus program that forces you to shut down your browser to get out of the site. I didn't bother checking out any of the other links.

If you care about your wiki you need to monitor it for this type of attack.

This just shows that nobody at the ALA recruitment assembly really cares about the wiki.

Perhaps they are also apathetic about recruitment? Let's hope so, before they do any more damage.

I'm all for French Naughty girls coming to our library schools. I think they'll make a nice bookend with the mudflap girls.

*Seconds the notion of bringing French naughty girls to our library schools* Then again, I don't care what nationality they are if they are naughty. I certainly don't discriminate in that regard, hehe.

Seriously though, that is pretty pathetic if they allow such a spam attack to just sit there. What kind of impression does that give people? It does allow us to laugh at it, if nothing else.

Look at some of the revisions, on all the pages. Even the main page. This has been going on since at least late September, from several different IPs, and no one has bothered to correct it or revert back to a previous version? Sad.

Guess what? I fixed it -- any of you coulda too.

Thanks for pointing it out. ALA -- fix your permissions!

Ryan, you're so dedicated to the common good! On the other hand, you ruined all our fun.

Good god!

Ryan, the AL and her Minions are not interested in fixing things. We enjoy complaining. Besides, most of us barely know what a wiki is, much less how to fix one, and we're proud of it!

that's ok, i fixed it back.

I have noticed one of the ALA's blogs (ECRR) is, at this point in time, used solely by spammers to spam. I revert all the spam I can. The thought has occurred to me why am I the only one reverting the spam, and why is nothing being done to stop the spam. If anyone knows, let me know so I can make that suggestion on that wiki.

It looks like the problem has been fixed. Yikes! Spam is not fun. It looks like they need to tighten up their security settings because when you go to create an account, it asks for your email and "real name" but I don't know if that will still prevent spam bots. Hmm.
