Change Agents

A lot of people seem to have been excited by this button at ALA:

Now that they're "change agents," maybe they can strap on one of these and make some change:

"Change agents" and capitalism? Don't tell that to the regressive librarians.

And make a few extra bucks on the side to make ends meet.

That was sort of what I thought when I saw the button. It seems pretty much the folks in those circles are practically drooling over the buttons.

well what you DO is, buy'em wholesale & mark'em up...
"We encourage sharing these badges with other change agents. Feel free to order badges for your organization, award them to colleagues and friends, or pass them out at your next meeting or conference. Each badge costs $2.50, and we require a minimum of 25 badges per order."
Metropolitan Group is a Consulting firm, apparently.

Who exactly at ALA comes up with this nonsense? I'm sick of the notion that one is irrelevant unless one is constantly advocating change in the profession. The fact that they have a "Catalyst for Change" award is especially irksome. At least I'll never have to worry about having such a dubious honor bestowed on me.
